Bring Your Own Device culture is here to stay
Bring Your Own Device well known as BYOD has attracted a lot of
publicity over the last three years thanks to ever increasing consumption of IT
products that has placed additional demands on technology organizations. BYOD
has transformed tech enterprises and has gone beyond offering users a flexible
path to access networks and in turn has presented fresh opportunities for tech
world to contribute productivity at strategic levels. Despite the rosy picture,
users have to find solution on how to ensure implementation methods can control
access and maintain productivity. The end user experiences need to keep data
secure and protect it across multiple end points. Such a step would require
finding ways to ensure that applications and data services are ubiquitous
regardless of the device user uses. Although BYOD is the most visible
transformation of the tech industry, the key driver has been the advent of new
personal computing devices like iPads.
As a BYOD addict, the new culture has altered the way as a user
I leverage technology with a good number of friends in the tech industry across
the world. This has had a huge impact on the management of enterprise mobility
as well because plenty of staff in the IT industry takes their devices to their
workstations. Individuals need to take a proactive, strategic approach built
around flexible policies in the BYOD phenomenal. The main challenge remains on
how to acquire the right security and management tools that will guarantee quality
data is efficiently availed to individuals across multiple devices of their choice
at their convenience. I must admit that BYOD culture has reduced my operational
costs and has allowed me to save considerable amount of time that has enabled
me to reinvest into other businesses. Unfortunately, not all employers offer
easy access to companies owned devices and I know of several company employees
whose employers control their access to the corporate network and data through
non-employers devices. However, organizations that are enlightened and recognizes
this global trend, have modernized their IT structures that have resulted
according to research to a more effective and happier employees.
