My hometown of Melbourne is the most livable city in the world
Statistics never deceive and for the third year in a row, yours hometown
of Melbourne that serves as the capital for state of Victoria has emerged top
of the list for the most liveable cities in the world. Like it or not, as a
Melburnian, I can tell you Melbourne has an enviable lifestyle and some of the
most skilled and innovative workforce I have ever worked with. As my aunt
recently told me, the city now offers the competitive business environment that
makes Melbourne one of the most dynamic cities in the world let alone
Australia. Since taking the mantle from Canadian city of Vancouver, Melbourne
had consistently been in the top three positions of the 140 cities listed on
Economist Intelligence Unit's Liveability Ranking. The survey is part of the
Worldwide Cost of Living evaluation of living conditions in 140 cities
worldwide through assigning a rating across five broad categories of stability,
healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. According to
the data, Melbourne scored highly in all of the EIU's criteria and achieves
perfect scores in the areas of healthcare, education and infrastructure.
This latest developments comes just weeks after the Monocle magazine
named Melbourne's quality of life the second best in the world climbing from
fifth position last year. Melbourne's constant reinvention of itself with new
innovative buildings rising as quickly as new food trucks and restaurants
appear is referenced by the report.Less than a year ago, http://www.contadorharrison.com/contador-harrison-loves-melbourne-the-greatest-city-in-australia/,
I shared how Melbourne is
well-known city for high quality of life, vibrant multicultural community,
renowned arts scene and world famous food and wine. I can also say that no
matter what sydneysiders would think of me, Melbourne has Australia's best
shopping and leisure opportunities. Adding to this vibrant lifestyle, Melbourne
is home to some of the global most prestigious cultural and sporting events. As
the world's most liveable city, Melbourne continues to attract people from all parts
of the world which has ensured a steady supply of highly talented workers. Interestingly,
three of the top 10 most livable
cities in the world are Canadian. The 100-point score for
infrastructure The Economist gave Melbourne and Vienna first and second place on the list.Seven of
the top 10 cities are in Canada and Australia, which the Intelligence Unit
points out reflects them being mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with
relatively low population density and good healthcare and education. The other
cities on the top 10 list, from fifth through ninth, are Adelaide, Sydney,
Helsinki- the home of Somocon Oy, my employer and Perth in western Australia.
Unfortunately for the African continent, half of the bottom 10 cities are from
there namely Douala in Cameroon, Tripoli in Libya, Algiers in Algeria, Harare
in Zimbabwe and Lagos in Nigeria.
